Leather Care

Each handmade leather journal binder is crafted from genuine leather. Because natural leather comes from real animal hides, every piece carries its own unique grain, pores, tone, texture, and surface character.

Subtle variations such as small scratches, creases, color shifts, natural marks, and grain differences are not defects. They are inherent characteristics of genuine leather and part of what makes each binder one of a kind.

How Natural Leather Ages

Genuine leather changes gradually with use. Touch, light, air, humidity, and daily handling all influence the way leather develops over time. The color may deepen, the surface may soften, and high-contact areas may become smoother and more polished.

These natural changes are part of the beauty of handmade leather goods.

Daily Care

Avoid prolonged exposure to water, oil, perfume, alcohol, cosmetics, and harsh chemicals. If the leather gets wet, gently blot the surface with a soft, dry cloth and allow it to air-dry naturally in a cool, shaded place. Do not use a hair dryer, heater, or direct sunlight to speed up the drying process, as this may cause the leather to harden, warp, or fade.

For everyday cleaning, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. For textured or matte leathers, frequent use of leather oils or conditioners is not recommended, as they may darken the color or alter the original surface texture.

Storage

When not in use, store your leather binder in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place. Avoid direct sunlight, excessive humidity, and prolonged pressure from heavy objects.

Leather may develop mold quickly if stored in a damp environment. If the mold is only on the surface, gently wipe it away with a dry cloth. However, once mold penetrates into the inner fibers of the leather, it cannot be removed. To prevent this, always keep your leather item in a well-ventilated place.

If storing for an extended period, keep the binder in a dust bag or box after ensuring the leather surface is clean and dry.

Color and Natural Marks

Actual colors may vary slightly due to leather batch differences, screen settings, photography lighting, and ambient light conditions. The patina, sheen, and color changes that develop over time may also vary from piece to piece.

Natural grain, minor scratches, slight color differences, creases, pores, and surface marks are normal features of genuine leather. They do not affect everyday use and add to the authentic character of handmade leather goods.

A Note on Patina

Natural leather is not meant to remain perfectly unchanged. It records the way you use it, the places it travels, and the moments it accompanies. Over time, your journal binder will develop a unique patina, making it truly yours.
